Born in Valparaiso, Indiana; married with four children. Received a BS in aeronautical engineering from Purdue University in 1950. Chosen as an X-20 pilot while assigned to the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards Air Force Base. He remained with USAF after the cancellation of the program, eventually retiring with the rank of Colonel. Died in Peoria, Arizona.
The group was selected to provide pilots for X-20A Dyna-Soar spaceplane flights.. Qualifications: Assigned from pool of active USAF and NASA Test Pilots.. Ten test pilots (7 USAF, 3 NASA) underwent physical examinations in August 1959. Seven were secretly selected in April 1960.
